Introduction
What is OzHelp Community Services?
OzHelp Community Services (formerly known as VYNE@OzHelp) is a community service of the OzHelp Foundation and was officially launched by ACT Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher MLA, on Friday 9 April, 2010 as part of the opening of OzHelp Foundation’s new and expanded national office premises at Fyshwick in the ACT.
The launch of OzHelp Community Services (OCS) signifies a renewed focus on, and change in approach to, our core business of community education and training in suicide prevention and awareness, and mental health promotion. It also signifies a commitment to extend our award winning OzHelp model and Tradies Tune Up program beyond the building and construction industry to the Canberra community service sector and general community.
Our direction for 2010
In the coming year OCS’ first priority will be to assess the needs of the Canberra community in relation to our core business, ensuring we provide community responsive services.
This will involve wide consultation in the form of surveys, face to face meetings and telephone contact. The results of this needs analysis will influence OCS’ future training courses, events calendars, promotional activities and community development actions.
In addition, OCS will work on maintaining current connections and creating new links with businesses, schools, government and non-government organisations to promote healthy working environments through education, training and staff support.
Training calendar
Throughout 2010, OCS will continue to provide our world class evidence based trainings, SafeTALK, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and ASIST Tune Up, through our community training calendar and in house requests, delivered at subsidised rates.
We will also facilitate trainings such as Mental Health First Aid and Solution-Oriented Brief Therapy, already scheduled on our 2010 community training calendar.
Special training offers in 2010
OCS will offer some exciting training opportunities in 2010, including free volunteer SafeTALK training to 70 Canberra volunteers, and a series of half day trainings at a significantly reduced rate, addressing issues such as mental health at work, conflict resolution, and workplace bullying, with a view to encouraging healthy work environments.
Training for your organisation
OCS can bring SafeTALK, ASIST and ASIST Tune Up workshops to your organisation, making them relevant to your staff. We can also provide tailor-made workshops and professional development relevant to current community issues. These workshops improve knowledge, skills and attitudes, and aim to enhance personal and organisational effectiveness, as well as productivity.
